The 16-foot “Solar Egg”, designed by the artistic duo Bigert & Bergstrom, sits in Luossabacken in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost town. Made up of glittering stainless steel mirrors with titanium gold color coating, the interior is stone, wood, brass and glass. The LEDs and solar panels make it very environmentally friendly.
Stunning Instagram pictures are guaranteed
The temperature inside the egg varies between 75 and 85 Degrees Celsius (167- 185 Fahrenheit), perfect to warm up when the temperature outside can drop to about -14C (about 5 Fahrenheit). The egg was commissioned by developer Riksbyggen, as part of an urban redevelopment project. They reportedly hoped to lure people to the town with the promise of stunning Instagram pictures. The entire town is due to be moved to prevent it from collapsing into a now-abandoned mine.
The egg-shaped wood-burning sauna can seat up to 8 people. When not in use, Solar Egg can be broken down into 69 separate components which can be reassembled elsewhere, rendering the entire sauna completely mobile.
